It was perfect weather to start the Men's Canada West Quarter Final match up between the Mount Royal University Cougars and the Trinity Western Spartans with the sun out and about 10 degrees. With the Cougars representing the home team at Field #2 at Mount Royal University in Calgary. The energy of this game meaning something was felt directly at kickoff. Knowing this game means so much to both teams. Having this opportunity be the last chance for senior players, while also being the biggest game of some players university careers.
Throughout the first half the Cougars and Spartans are using every inch of the field. Trying to generate some offence Charles Nana and Emmanual Dan-Adokiene  had what looked to be a rush but was offside.
Dan-Adokiene has another chance and is coming close to the net with some momentum,

nd minute, the Calgary born Spartan, gets the ball at the top right of the box, makes a quick move and sends a shot on net, which beats
Sjard Strauss on his low right hand side. Strauss making his first start since September 28
th, while dealing with a shoulder injury..

th minute,
Jonathan Walter sets up in the keepers box, and sends the ball to
Luka Patik in the right corner, Patik passes to
Chanan Chanda, reader to lay out for the heard, which he sends wide of the net.
Strauss is keeping it aggressive and derailing the chances the Spartans have to create momentum in the Cougars zone. Marcel Bona gets a shot on net, but Strauss makes the jumping save to keep the game within one. Patik sends a shot on net for the Cougars, Yeshua Silwamba gets the save on the high shot. The Cougars generate the offence within the box,
Jonathan Walter ends up with the ball at the top and gets a hard shot up and over the net.
Spartans forward Nana is given a yellow card during added time of the first half for dissent. Speed and defence have been exemplified throughout the first half of this quarter final game. With back and forth chances between the Spartans and the Cougars, the Spartans come out of the first half with the lead in a 1-0 game.
In the 56
th minute Dan-Adokiene speeds down the field, ends up in the right corner and sends the ball to the front of the net for the Spartans to try to make a play,
Hyunsoo Ryu disrupts the play and gets the ball out of their zone, keeping the game at a defensive battle.
For the Spartans, Gabriel Moore is set up in the right corner and sends the ball to Dan-Adokiene who set up at the left corner of the net and shots the ball, Strauss makes and incredible save while lunging, he gets his foot in front and deflects the ball away from the net.
The Cougars are trying to get on the board, with a hustling
Josh Flaksman down to the left corner of the field, he gets the ball to Chanda, who tris to spin and get the ball on net, but sends it wide. With a corner kick Koudelka there is chaos in front of the Spartans net, Chanda has a chance, Koudelka rushes in and shoots off a rebound, the Spartans eventually get the ball out of their zone.
In the 70
th minute the Spartans are handed their second yellow card of the match to Kieran Eve. After a foul is given up by the Spartans in the box, Chanda is set for a penalty kick in the 71
st minute. he shots the ball to the right of the net while Silwamba dives to the left. The Calgary born forward nets the first goal of the playoff for the Cougars and gets this game tied. The Cougars are keeping up the push after the tying goal. Flaksman races down the left of the field and gets a hard shot on net, with Silwamba deflects it away.
The Cougars are taking their time, trying to get a play going. In the 87
th minute of play, Joe Green is given the ball in the left corner of the field by Flaksman, Green sends the ball to the front of the net where
Clement Guay is ready for the header, he gets the header and sends the ball to the back right corner of the net. The Cougars lead 2-1 with only a handful of minutes to play.
As the temperature rose in the air and on Field #2 within the last minutes of the Quarter Final,
Clement Guay is handed a yellow card. The Spartans are amping up the pressure. The Cougars make away with the Quarter Final win and they are headed to the Semi Final on Sunday.
