Box Score Mount Royal's season opener started off against the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns with sunny but rather windy weather conditions. The Cougars came into this game with great energy after earning the title of the 2023 Canada West Champions and the Canada West record for most clean sheets last season.
With momentum brewing in the first half, the Cougars showed great physicality and strength and were determined to lead the game. The Cougars and Pronghorns took turns taking control of the ball as the game progressed. There were a lot of tackles and trips and even though this was a scoreless game, the Cougars' aggressive style stood out.

Joshua Flaksman showed great footwork consistently and proved to be strong offensively. He showed great speed and consistently took shots on net. The game had a solid pace to it with both teams matched up well.
At the end of the first half, the score was 0-0, and the Cougars were losing momentum.
In the 55th minute, there was a very close shot on net by defender
Alex Kemsley, but to no avail.
The game proved to be a tough match up with the Cougars taking a lead from their back line. Later on, Flaksman made a great attack in the 60th minute. Kai Sakaguchi continued to play aggressively and in the 73rd minute, there was a great save by goalie
Bryce Benton.
Momentum slowed for the Cougars but overall this game was filled with a lot of hard, contact plays.
