Players Bench Female Athlete of the Week: Analisa Galvez
After a back-to-back weekend in British Columbia for the Cougars women's soccer team, they returned home to take on the TWU Spartans and UFV Cascades.
Friday against the TWU Spartans didn't go as planned as the Cougars lost 0-1 in a slow-paced game. Coming into Sunday against the UFV Cascades, the Cougars got on the board early to take a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, in the opening minutes of the second half, UFV would score to tie it up, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
The Players Bench Female Athlete of the Week is
Analisa Galvez. The hometown Calgary native and first-year Health & Phys. Ed student picked up her first goal of her collegiate career on Sunday against UFV. The goal came in the 22nd minute as
Julia Makoloski ran down the left wing sending in a cross into Galvez who would tuck it in.
The women will return to BC as they take on the UBC Thunderbirds on Friday, at 6 p.m., and the UNBC Timberwolves Sunday, at 1 p.m. You can stream the game live on
Canada West TV.
Players Bench Male Athlete of the Week: Alex Kemsley
After sweeping UNBC and Victoria last weekend the Cougars men's soccer team remained at home for the second edition of the Crowchild Classic against the Calgary Dinos.
In another chippy and physical battle between the teams, the Cougars would strike first to take the lead 1-0 going into the half. Five minutes into the second frame, a
Hyunsoo Ryu foul inside the box would allow the Dinos a penalty kick which they'd capitalize on. The game would remain deadlocked, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
The Players Bench Athlete of the Week was third-year Business student
Alex Kemsley. The defencemen from across the pond in Axbridge, UK earned himself his second goal in two weeks. In the 25th minute on Saturday, Kemsley would do the same thing he did last weekend against Victoria. On a free kick set piece, Kemsley would take a feed from
Ethan Keen and head the ball into the back of the net.
The men will return home this weekend on Field 2 to take on the first-place Prairie division team in the U of A Golden Bears on Saturday at 3 p.m. They will also take on the MacEwan Griffins on Sunday at 3 p.m. for their senior night. Bring a chair and come to the game or stream the game live on
