CALGARY, AB – A rocky game for the Cascades, a ferocious one for the Cougars.
The Mount Royal University Cougars men's volleyball team completed the weekend sweep over the University of Fraser Valley Cascades with their second straight 3-0 win (25-17, 25-16, 25-16).
Set one showed the Kenyon Court faithful just how dominant Mount Royal can be. Their attacking depth is unmatched and it was on full display in the opener.
Samson Olsen found a connection with his middle-blockers
Luis Lange and
Cody Boulding who put down a combined seven kills in the first set.
Fraser Valley pushed back in the second as Cascades setter Silas Van Huizen fed Caleb Kastelein consistently with mixed results. The MRU blocking force held strong with Kastelein and Jonas Van Huizen chipping away at the Cougars' lead.
The story of the game continued to be the staggering success of Mount Royal's middles. After three victorious sets,
Cody Boulding and
Luis Lange possessed an incredible .917 hitting percentage.
Mount Royal's dominance continued into the third and final set.
Chris Byam's powerful 12 kills sent the Cascades packing and the Cougars improved their record to 12-6.
