University of Saskatchewan Huskies women's hockey earned a weekend split with a 3-1 win over the Mount Royal University Cougars.

On the final day of the regular season, the Huskies stole a victory at Flames Community Arena despite being outshot by the Cougars, 35-17.

Saskatchewan netminder Colby Wilson was stellar all game and was the MVP for her squad.

The Huskies got the first goal of the game midway through the first period. Sara Kendall tapped in a goal past the right pad of Cougars goalie, Scout Anderson, while on the powerplay. MRU struggled to clear the puck out of the zone and Saskatchewan made them pay.

In the second, Brooklyn Stevely added to the Huskie lead. The defender wired a short-side wrist shot to make it 2-0.

Mount Royal was awarded a penalty shot after a Huskie player covered the puck in the crease. Aliya Jomha was selected to shoot for MRU. Jomha deked to her forehand, but Colby Wilson made a fantastic save to keep the puck out. The Huskies held their 2-0 lead into the third.

Jomha was able to make up for her penalty shot attempt when she made a smooth move around the Huskie defence and roofed it past Wilson to cut the lead in half.

Saskatchewan was able to restore their two-goal lead with their own pretty goal. Bronwyn Boucher split the defence and fired a laser past Scout Anderson.

The Huskies held on for a 3-1 win over the Cougars. They'll finish in the fifth seed in Canada West and take on the fourth place Calgary Dinos in the quarter final round of the playoffs. The Cougars locked up their third place ranking and will host the sixth place Trinity Western Spartans next weekend at FCA.

MRU men's volleyball team had a clean weekend sweep for their final home games of the season.

Jackson Brennan was honoured for his senior night with a quick three set victory over the Brandon University Bobcats.

The game looked close in sections, but the Cougars were untouchable; 25-18, 25-19, 25-19.

It was tight to start the first, with high energy coming from the Bobcats paired against the skill from MRU. Unfortunately for Brandon, Mount Royal's ability and connection were too strong to overcome.

The second saw a dominant Cougars line. Chris Byam had five kills and 1 dig. There was pure power coming off his arm propelled them to a quick win.

Byam kick started the third set with a serving frenzy, putting down two service aces accompanied by three kills off the bat.

The Boys took a big lead early, but a Brandon comeback was fueled by inaccuracy and service errors nearing the end of the set.

Brennan put on a show for his family that came into town to celebrate his final regular season home game. The veteran finished the night with one kills to his name, 33 assists and six digs.

"The biggest thing for me was to treat it like any other night," said Brennan. "It was pretty special to have my family here and my teammates were awesome."

To finish out the night, Paul Dionne and Tate Howell joined the floor. In just a few minutes Dionne had two kills and a dig while Howell had a kill of his own.

Mount Royal finally claimed the victory with a reception error on Brandon's side sending the ball high into the stands.

Brandon was led by Tom Friesen with six kills, 17 receptions and two digs. JJ Love had a perfect attack average, scoring on all three attack attempts. The men finish the weekend 12-10 on the season.

MRU sit 17-5 going into their last weekend of regular season play in Edmonton when they take on the GMU Griffins.

It was Senior Night tonight on Kenyon Court, and the MRU Cougars women's volleyball team honoured five graduating athletes; Chloe Shum, Quinn Pelland, Nyadholi Thokbuom, Haley Roe and Madison Marshall.

What better way to celebrate than with a clean three-set victory?

The women took the game 25-10, 25-11, 25-11 over the Brandon University Bobcats for their second win of the weekend.

Shum started the night off strong with a miracle kill coming off a high ball from Sarah McKillican, finding an empty space in the center of the visitors side. She also managed to lead the team in kills for the first half of the opening set.

The seniors came out ready to put on a show tonight, making sure to end their final regular season in Cougar blue on top.

Shum finished the night with seven kills and six digs. Pelland had 26 assists, six kills and seven digs. Thokbuom had 11 kills to match her jersey while Roe put down nine kills and four digs. Unfortunately Marshall sat out the night from injury.

An offensive run started the second set, with the Cougars carrying the momentum forward and were truly unstoppable. Tonight's performance truly demonstrated what this team is capable of and seemed to ignite their passion as they move closer to what looks to be a successful playoff run.

Tonight also saw play time from Faye Murray, Marie Leggett and Paige Davidson who were able to close out the second with strength.

The final set was just as impressive as the first two, seeing a repeat score from the second.

Tonight all five graduating seniors were named player of the game for their hard work and dedication to the squad.

The women play their final two regular season games of the year on the road against the MacEwan Griffins while Brandon hosts Trinity at home.
