Box Score The Mount Royal University men's hockey team faced the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds, suffering a 7 – 4 defeat on their home ice in the second game of the weekend. 

The first period was full of action as both teams vied for control of the game. 

Just over five minutes in, UBC's Scott Atkinson notched the game's first points with an assist from Jake Lee. 

Less than a minute later, the Thunderbirds extended their lead 2 – 0 as Sam Huo found the net, assisted by Liam Kindree and Ryan Pouliot. 

The Cougars answered back two minutes later, with Connor Bouchard securing MRU's first goal, assisted by teammate Robbie Holmes. 

Under a minute later, Thunderbirds Sasha Mutala and Jonny Lambos assisted Jake Lee in further increasing their lead to 3 – 1. 

Around the midway point of the first period, UBC's Conner McDonald was penalized and sent to the box for interference, granting the Cougars a powerplay advantage. However, they were unable to capitalize on the opportunity. 

Two minutes later, MRU's Tristan Zandee was cited for high sticking, returning the powerplay back to the Thunderbirds.  

Shortly after, MRU's Remy Aquilon was penalized for tripping, and the Thunderbirds capitalized on the opportunity, with Liam Kindree extending their lead to 4 – 1. He was assisted by Jonathan Smart and Josh Williams. 

With just under two minutes left in the game, MRU's Zafir Rawji and UBC's Jack Wismer were both penalized for roughing, resulting in a four-on-four situation. 

A little over a minute left in the period, UBC's Sam Huo and Conner McDonald contributed assists to Jake Lee, expanding the Thunderbirds lead to 5 – 1. 

The second period saw both teams add points to the scoreboard. 

Early in the period, UBC's Jake Lee received a tripping penalty, granting the Cougars a powerplay. However, the Cougars could not capitalize on the advantage.  

Shortly after, MRU's Kyle Walker was penalized for tripping, returning the powerplay advantage to the Thunderbirds. The Cougars defense effectively prevented any goals. 

Around the midpoint of the period, MRU's Clayton Hanus secured an additional point with an assist from Moe Hakim. 

Moments later, UBC's Liam Kindree was penalized for holding, offering the Cougars another powerplay opportunity. However, UBC successfully defended against any goal attempts. 

With just under seven minutes left in the period, UBC's Liam Kindree extended the Thunderbirds lead to 6 – 2, assisted by Sam Huo.
   
Just over a minute into the third period, UBC's Chris Douglas received a tripping penalty, providing the Cougars with a powerplay advantage. 

The Cougars capitalized on the opportunity, with Kyle Walker and Blake Stevenson assisting Spencer Moe in securing an additional point. 

Shortly after, UBC's Tian Rask was penalized for high sticking, resulting in another powerplay opportunity for the Cougars. However, the Thunderbirds successfully defended their net.

A little over seven minutes into the period, MRU's Clayton Hanus netted another goal for the Cougars, bringing the score to 6 – 4. Connor Bouchard and Connor Blake assisted in the play.

Past the halfway mark of the period, UBC's Sam Huo was penalized for rouging, providing the Cougars with a powerplay opportunity. Shortly after, MRU's Clayton Hanus received a penalty for embellishment, resulting in a four-on-four game.   

In the final minutes of the game, the Cougars pulled their goalie, creating a six-on-five advantage.   

With less than two minutes remaining in the game, UBC's Scott Atkinson received a cross checking penalty, granting the Cougars a powerplay and a six-on-four advantage. 

With just one second left in the game, UBC's Ty Thorpe scored into the Cougars empty net, sealing a 7 - 4 victory for the Thunderbirds.
