Box Score The Mount Royal University men's hockey team faced the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds, suffering a 7 – 4 defeat on their home ice in the second game of the weekend.
The first period was full of action as both teams vied for control of the game.
Just over five minutes in, UBC's Scott Atkinson notched the game's first points with an assist from Jake Lee.
Less than a minute later, the Thunderbirds extended their lead 2 – 0 as Sam Huo found the net, assisted by Liam Kindree and Ryan Pouliot.
The Cougars answered back two minutes later, with
Connor Bouchard securing MRU's first goal, assisted by teammate
Robbie Holmes.
Under a minute later, Thunderbirds Sasha Mutala and Jonny Lambos assisted Jake Lee in further increasing their lead to 3 – 1.
Around the midway point of the first period, UBC's Conner McDonald was penalized and sent to the box for interference, granting the Cougars a powerplay advantage. However, they were unable to capitalize on the opportunity.
Two minutes later, MRU's
Tristan Zandee was cited for high sticking, returning the powerplay back to the Thunderbirds.
Shortly after, MRU's
