Box Score The Mount Royal University men's hockey team hosted the MacEwan University Griffins in an energizing clash on home ice Saturday night.Â
The first period witnessed several penalties, but neither team managed to score.
Within the first three minutes, MRU's
Jaxon Martens and MacEwan's Kadyn Chabot both received simultaneous boarding penalties, resulting in a four-on-four game.Â
With just under four minutes remaining in the period, the Griffins Sean Comrie was penalized for high sticking, providing the Cougars with a power play opportunity. Despite the pressure, the Griffins defence effectively prevented any goals.Â
Just over a minute left in the period, the Griffins were penalized for having too many players on the ice, resulting in a two-minute penalty served by Liam Ryan. However, the Cougars could not capitalize on the advantage. Â
MRU outshot the Griffins 16 to four but could not find the back of the net.Â
The second period witnessed scoring from both teams.Â
Just under three minutes into the period, MRU's
Dawson Milliken was penalized with a double minor for high sticking, providing the Griffins a four-minute power play opportunity.
The Griffins capitalized on the advantage, as Jordan Taupert netted the game's first goal, with Carter Chorney and Sean Comrie assisting.
Shortly afterward, Jordan Taupert from the Griffins received a tripping penalty, giving the Cougars another power play opportunity. Despite the Griffins being down a player, they successfully defended their net.Â
Approximately two-minutes later, MRU was penalized for having too many players on the ice, with
Alaister Standen serving the penalty.Â
At the midpoint of the period, MRU's
Robbie Holmes scored, leveling the game 1 – 1, with an assist by
Connor Bouchard. Â
In the final three minutes of the period,
Connor Bouchard extended the Cougars lead to 2 – 1, assisted by
Kurtis Smythe.Â
Just over four minutes into the third period, MRU expanded their lead as
Tim Gould scored, assisted by
Dawson Milliken and
Remy Aquilon.Â
Shortly after, MRU's
Robbie Holmes was penalized for hooking, granting the Griffins a power play chance. Despite the Griffins offensive push, the Cougars successfully defended their net.Â
With just over eleven minutes remaining in the game,
Moe Hakim of the Cougars added another point for his team with an assist from
Jaxon Martens.

Kurtis Smythe was penalized for a delay of game, allowing the Griffins a power play opportunity. Despite the advantage, the Cougars effectively defended their net, preventing any goal attempts.Â
In the last three minutes of the game,
Robbie Holmes of MRU scored the final point, extending the Cougars lead to 5 – 1. He received assists by
Tim Gould and
Connor Bouchard.Â
The Cougars ultimately outshot the Griffins 39 to 14, securing an at home victory.Â
