Box Score The Mount Royal University women's hockey team secured a 4 -1 victory as they hosted the University of Calgary Dinos.
The first period saw both teams enter the ice with determination, battling for control of the puck.
Just under eight minutes into the period,
Lyndsey Janes of the Cougars received a hooking penalty, granting the Calgary Dinos a power play opportunity. However, the Cougars defence displayed resilience, denying the Dinos a chance to score.
With under three minutes remaining in the period, U of C's Josie McLeod was cited for holding, giving the Cougars a power play opportunity.
MRU's
Jerzey Watteyne received a hooking penalty with 35 seconds left in the period. The Dinos capitalized on this advantage, with
Courtney Kollman and Sydney Mercier assisting Brooklin Fry in securing a 1 – 0 lead just 16 seconds before the period ended.
Over six minutes into the second period, MRU pulled their goalie, leaving their net empty and providing them a six-to-five-person advantage. Moments later, the Dinos'
Courtney Kollman was cited for body checking, resulting in her heading to the penalty box and granting MRU a power play advantage.
Just over the halfway mark in the period, the Cougars
Breanne Trotter was penalized for body checking, giving the Dinos the power play.
With less than a minute remaining, U of C's Sydney Mercier received a penalty for body checking, giving MRU the upper hand in the last minute of the period.
The period concluded with both teams unable to secure any points.
The Cougars started the third period with a power play advantage, applying early pressure on the Dinos. MRU was unable to capitalize on the advantage as the Dinos displayed resilience on defence.

Five minutes remained in the period when MRU's
Jori Hansen-Young scored on the Dinos net, giving her team a 2 – 1 lead. She was assisted by
Lyndsey Janes and
Emma Bergesen.

Sydney Benko in securing an additional goal for the Cougars with three minutes remaining, extending their lead to 3 – 1.
In the last two minutes of the game, the Dinos pulled their goalie, creating a six- to-five player advantage. However, with just five seconds left, MRU's
Gabby Lindsay scored into the Dinos empty net, leading her team to 4 – 1 victory.

Sydney Benko said the team does their best to stay motivated when opportunities to score are missed. She added the victory was a group effort.
"We didn't score on some good chances so we just kind of had to keep going," she said. "It was a big team effort today. I can't give enough credit to my teammates."
