The University of Calgary Dinos and Mount Royal University Cougars kicked of the 2023 Crowchild Classic with a tight battle. the Cougars took the game with a 1-0 shootout win.

The game was very close the 60 minutes and both netminders were incredible. MRU's Kaitlyn Ross was unbeatable and held her team in it with multiple saves including a huge double save in overtime.

Despite multiple penalties taken in regulation and in overtime, the puck never crossed the line for either team. 

The Dinos had the first chance of the game when Sophie Zuck rang the puck of the post.

Kiana McNinch had a terrific chance in tight during the second period but was hooked by a Calgary defender. The Cougars were unsuccessful on their powerplay. 

60 minutes of regulation, five minutes of four-on-four and five minutes of three-on-three gave zeros on the scoreboard and the Crowchild Classic would need a shootout.

In the shootout, Aliya Jomha would dangle a beautiful goal past Durante. Jomha's goal proved to be the winner at the MRU Cougars claimed Crowchild bragging rights.
