The Cougars painted Crowchild blue tonight, beating the University of Calgary Dinos in four sets on Kenyon Court for their home opener.
Starting off strong with a win in the first, captain Quinn Pelland set her hitters up for success placing balls in perfect position for massive kills from her outsides. Haley Roe and Jessica Osczevski were lighting up the scoreboard tonight. Tearing up the middle was Dholi Thokboum and Mya Morgan, capturing five and three kills a piece.
But the star of the show was no doubt Maddy Marshall from Brooks, Alberta. Marshall ended the game with 15 kills and seven digs.
For the Dinos, Sammi Boag led the scoring for her team, while libero Michela Alongi was passing dimes. Middle Mya Sheridan had two massive blocks to keep the Dinos neck and neck with the Cougars in the second set, making it an exciting game to watch.

The Mount Royal University Cougars men's hockey team shut out the MacEwan Griffins 4-0 on Friday night at Flames Community Arena.
The Cougars were dominant from the start. They drove the play with their strong top six forward group and the Griffins began to take penalties.
MRU took advantage with extra skater.
Andrew Fyten got a bouncing puck past MacEwan's netminder, Ashton Abel to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. The tally was Fyten's fourth of the year.
Despite outshooting the Griffins 12-1 in the first, MRU managed the lone goal through twenty minutes.
In the second period, the Cougars added to their lead.
While shorthanded,
Riley Sawchuk found himself with a partial break and fired it past Abel. Sawchuk and
Nolan Yaremko each picked up a point to extend their lead on Canada West leaderboard.
Later in the frame,
Connor Blake's point shot was deflected in front by Ethan Reginer and fooled Abel to make it 3-0 for Mount Royal.
Cougar's goalie,
Jackson Berry registered the shutout for the night, despite facing just ten shots. Berry wasn't called upon very often but shut the door on the Griffins each of their shots.
Late in the third period Sawchuk scored his second of the game off a centering pass from
Connor Bouchard. Sawchuk, Bouchard, and Yaremko have found a chemistry on the Cougars top line. The trio player together going back to their junior days, playing for the Tri-City Americans.
"We played together a bit back in Tri-City. We formed a hard-working third line. I think we gained some chemistry back then and it still resonates with us now," said
Riley Sawchuk. "I wouldn't be finding my success without those two."
Sawchuk and the Cougars and Griffins will rematch tomorrow night at 5 p.m. in Edmonton. Catch the game live on

Cheers were loud and rallies were long on Kenyon Court as the Mount Royal Cougars played the University of Calgary Dinos in their Crowchild Classic home opener Friday night. The Cougars defeated the Dinos in three sets 25-22, 25-18 and 25-18.
Starting the game strong with a lengthy rally, the Cougars captain Chris Byam secured the first point in the game and started the boys on track for the night.
Byam led his team to victory with some right plays at the right time, earning himself 11 kills and two blocks, while also showing strong leadership and cool composure during the game. Other key components for the team on their opening night were veterans Max Haronga, Luis Lang and Jace Timmer.
Lang was a force in the middle, scoring six kills and owning three blocks in the front row. A huge t-line kill in the first set created momentum for the Cougars and helped them capture the win. Timmer had five kills and Haronga finished off the game with a whopping six kills and three digs.
From The Dinos, it was Liam Kuppe who led the game, capturing seven kills, one block and two digs. Erik Godwin also owned three kills.
The Cougars had the momentum all night long against the Dinos, feeding off the energy from their home opener crowd.
