CALGARY, ALTA. - The Mount Royal University women's and men's soccer teams have been named the Canada West Regular Season Prairie Division Champions.
The news comes after Canada West announced a MacEwan University women's soccer player was ineligible to compete in 11 women's soccer games resulting in MacEwan forfeiting all results in which the ineligible player played. Therefore, the Mount Royal University women's soccer team has been named the Prairie Division Champions, finishing with a 10-3-1 record and 31 points. This is a first for the women's program in its Canada West / U SPORTS era.
The women will now host the winner of a women's play-in game on Saturday, Oct. 22 between the University of Victoria Vikes and Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack. The women's Canada West quarter-final game will be hosted at 1 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 29 at MRU Stadium Field.
Although the men's soccer team has not completed its regular season, the Cougars have clinched the Prairie Division with a record of 8-0-4. The men have two regular season games left to complete on Saturday, Oct. 22 and Sunday, Oct. 23 against the University of Alberta and MacEwan University; respectively. This marks the third season in a row in which the men's soccer team has won the regular season championship. Once the regular season is complete, the men will host a Canada West quarter-final game on October 29 at 3 p.m. against the Pacific 4 seed.
