Canada West announced today that the conference has approved alternate formats for the 2021-22 regular season and playoffs.

This is exciting news for the conference following the cancellation of the 2020-21 season due to the covid-19 pandemic. While pandemic restrictions still greatly impact our provinces today, member universities of Canada West are looking forward to a time when it will be safe for sport to restart. 

"Our conference work leading up to the decisions made this week regarding schedules has been tremendous," said Karla Karch, Cougars Athletics and Recreation Director. "MRU and our varsity programs are looking forward to resuming competition in a safe and fiscally responsible way. What that means to each institution may vary slightly among the members, but collectively we have our direction. Over the coming months, we will continue to monitor our environments and implement these schedules that will allow us to return to sport in the safest way possible."

The Canada West conference of U SPORTS is comprised of 17 member schools from the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Further announcements will be made in the coming months specific to starting dates and scheduled opponents in each sport.
