VANCOUVER, B.C. - After an outstanding season for the Mount Royal Cougars,
Moe El Gandour was named the 2021 Canada West men's soccer Player of the Year on Thursday.
The third-year forward becomes the first Mount Royal Cougar to win the conference's Player of the Year award.
El Gandour led Canada West in scoring with eight goals for his hometown Cougars. The Business major also led the conference in points with 11 (8G-3A). A hat-trick performance on October 16 against the Saskatchewan Huskies also boosted El Gandour's stats against competition with his first three-goal game of his career.
The Mount Royal Cougars are the hosts of the 2021 Final Four for the first time in their history after finishing in first-place in the Central Division.
In the first semifinal, the top seed out of the West Division, Victoria Vikes take on the No. 3 team out of the West Division, the Fraser Valley Cascades at 11 a.m.
The Cougars will face the No. 2 seed out of the West Division, the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds. The semifinal match will kick off at 2 p.m. on MRU's Staduim Field.
Sunday's bronze medal match is set for 11 a.m. MT, with the championship to follow at 2 p.m. MT. All four matches will be available live on
