WVB: ALB (3) at MRU (1)
In a tight game, the University of Alberta earned their second win of the weekend after defeating Mount Royal 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-24, 25-23).
It was apparent that the Cougars were hungry for redemption after their loss last night.
They were able to control the game, making the majority of the kills against the Pandas, but errors were the main reason for tonight's defeat.
On 50 kills, MRU made 24 errors on attack with 14 service errors. ALB also made their fair share of errors tonight with 21 errors on attack and 49 kills.
Regardless of the errors,
Jessica Osczevski put up impressive numbers in favour of the Cougars. Osczevski made 16 kills on 39 attacks and made five digs to keep the team alive on defence.
The first set ended 25-20 in favour for the Pandas, but the Cougars came back for an aggressive second set and won 25-23 over ALB.
"We had a really good relationship out there, it was really nice to see," said Osczevski. "We had really good communication the whole time. I think we just slipped with a couple of errors there at the end and in a couple of finishing sets but hopefully we will do better next time."
The remainder of the game had everyone on the edge of their seats, both teams battling for every point. It was truly an even match up with many moments where the teams were dead even but never letting the other have more than a two point lead.
Alberta was able to win the last two sets, and with it, the game. Both sets were won in nail biting 25-23 finishes.
Mount Royal now enters a bye week before they take on the Grant MacEwan Griffins November 26 and 27 in Edmonton. Catch all the action on

The University of Alberta Golden Bears beat the Mount Royal University Cougars 4-1 Saturday night at the Calgary Flames Community Arena.
Less than 30 seconds into the first period, Clayton Kirichenko carried the puck into the offensive zone along the right sideboards and drove towards the net. He slipped the puck under
Riley Sims' right arm and into the net.
A cross-ice pass from Nolan Volcan to Wyatt McLeod, who was standing alone in front on the right side of the net put Alberta up 2-0 going into the second. McLeod put home his own rebound over the right pad of Sims.
MRUs only goal of the night was on a powerplay chance just over seven minutes into the second.
Ryley Lindgren was waiting at the opposing blue line for a pass.
Brad Kennedy spotted him, springing Lindgren on a breakaway. Lindgren released a wrister that beat Golden Bears goaltender Nick Schneider through the five-hole, cutting U of A's lead in half.
The Golden Bears responded before the period was over with a slapshot from Volcan that deflected off of numerous bodies on its way to the net, fooling Sims.
The game's final goal came six minutes into the third period on a powerplay opportunity for U of A. A slapshot from McLeod was tipped in front by Gary Haden beating Sims.
The Cougars look to redeem themselves next Friday night against the University of Manitoba Bisons at 6:00pm. Watch the game on

This weekend saw two wins for the University of Alberta Golden Bears over the Mount Royal University Cougars at Kenyon Court.
ALB was able to take today's game in a clean three sets, seeing MRU fight to keep the match from escaping their reach.
The Golden Bears were led by Braedon Friesen who was able to get 14 kills on 25 attacks against the Cougars. Friesen was able to keep a 50 per cent hitting average throughout the game.
Alberta took the first set 25 to Mount Royal's 17.
Chris Byam was able to hit 50 per cent for the Cougars, making four kills and making two digs.
Unfortunately, MRU struggled against the size of ALB's Liam Espedido. Espedido's 6-10 frame allowed him the ability to cover most of the court without needing to make big movements.
The second set saw MRU concede again, 25-16. Byam added another kill to his stat sheet for Mount Royal with
Jackson Brennan sitting at six assists on 13 attacks.
Cougars
Luis Lange was awarded player of the game and said tonight's game was a result of attitude.
"You want something, you have to go get it and they wanted it more today," said Lange. "We've got to have a better attitude in practice and be open to change. We're leaning back into old habits too much and it's killing us out there."
The third set went to Alberta, taking it 25-18. The Golden Bears saw impressive performances from Billy Johnstone and Max Elgert alongside Friesen.
Johnstone had a 44 per cent hitting average with five kills on nine total attacks, while also making two digs and helping with four massive blocks for the team.
Elgert played a big part in Alberta's win tonight, with 32 assists, six digs and one block.
The Cougars were unable to get the rhythm needed to provide the strong attack they could have against the Bears.
Lange said that with the bye weekend coming up, the men will not change focus and will be making some needed adjustments in the upcoming practices.
Mount Royal won't see the court again until their away games against Grant MacEwan University November 26 and 27. Make sure to catch all the action on
Canada West TV presented by Co-op.
