WVB: WolfPack makes a comeback against the Cougars

CALGARY - The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack was hosted to its final matchup for the season with the Mount Royal University Cougars on Kenyon Court. After a hard battle, the WolfPack won the night 3-1. 

The set scores were: 25-19, 25-18, 21-25, 25-20.

For Mount Royal, Dholi Thokbuom led with 18 points, including 13 kills. Chantel Park followed with 12 points and seven kills. For Thompson Rivers, Kendra Finch set the pace with 16 points, including 14 kills. She was closely followed by Avery Pottle with 13.5 points and eight kills. 

The first set began with the two teams trading points, neither able to pull ahead. Thompson Rivers broke away from the pattern after nine points with a kill from Finch. Mount Royal's Thokbuom hit a kill to get the score within a points difference. The WolfPack held steady in their resolve and worked to win the set. 

Thompson Rivers took an early lead in the second, earning a healthy gap of nine points. Mount Royal struggled to find their momentum, but were capitalizing some tough opportunities to score. The WolfPack held a consistently wide point difference to win the set. 

Mount Royal opened the third set with a kill from Park. They were capitalizing on service errors to widen their lead, running away with the score. Thompson Rivers caught up as they were approaching the set point, but after a close struggle for the advantage, Mount Royal won the set. 

The teams were matching points for the first steps of the fourth, mirroring each other's moves. Mount Royal slipped away into the lead after meeting at four points. However, Thompson Rivers soon caught up and surpassed them at 12 with several service aces. Mount Royal matched them once more, but were son overrun with several more aces and kills. A final kill by Finch and a Mount Royal service error won the night for the WolfPack. 

The Cougars will play next against the University of Calgary in a classic matchup on Thursday, January 23rd. It will be broadcasted live on CanadaWest.tv, presented by Co-op.
