CALGARY - The Mount Royal Cougars made a swift come back after last night's defeat to the Alberta Pandas. The Cougars swept the match 3-0 despite some strong pushback. The set scores were 25-22, 25-19, and 21-25.
Fourth year outside hitter for the Pandas, Kory White, led her team with 14 kills while her setter Elyse Hart held 24 assists. They now have a record of 5-5.Â
For the Cougars, fifth year outside hitter Chantel Park earned 12 kills while setter Quinn Pelland had a strong 29 assists. They now have a record of 11-1.Â
The first set began with a Cougars lead which stayed strong throughout the set. The Pandas stayed close on their tails, nearly tying the match at 20-21. However, the Cougars stayed tough and took the set 25-22 with a kill by Quinn Pelland.Â
The Pandas were making a comeback in the second set until the Cougars surpassed them at the fourth point. They were trading points as they vied for control. Mount Royal pulled ahead after a 17-17 tie and held steady. Chantel Park ended the set with a kill, making it 25-19.Â
The third set was playing it close as they once again traded points. For a moment, the Pandas took control of the set. They were neck-and-neck until 21-21. In the end, the Cougars made a series of hard kills and one service ace to take the set 25-21.Â
This was the final match of 2019 for the Mount Royal Cougars. They will be hosted by the Trinity Western Spartans on Friday, January 10th, at 6 p.m. PST. It will be broadcasted live on CanadaWest.tv, presented by Co-op.
