COUGARS TOPPLE CANADA'S TOP TEAM
CALGARY- The Mount Royal Cougars defeated the UBC Okanagan Heat, the number one team in the CIS 3-2 (25-22, 13-25, 25-15, 17-25, 17-5).
Fallon Middlemiss led the Cougars to victory with 18 kills and 15 digs on her senior night.
The Cougars and Heat were neck and neck throughout the entire first set. It wasn't until the Cougars won a small and got an out of bound balls to take the first set 25-22.
UBC Okanagan dominated the first set going up 20-10 on the first 30 points. The Cougars tried to claw back, but couldn't solve the UBC Okanagan attack. The Heat took the second set 25-13.
The Cougars took over in the third set, with two six-point rallies. The Heat just couldn't keep pace with the Cougars. The third set ended with a great kill by
Nicky Zalasky and Mount Royal won 25-15.
UBC came back into the fourth with consistent rallies bringing them into the lead. The Cougars fought back gaining a couple of points, the Heat were already in the driver's seat. The Heat won the fourth set on a block by Megan Festival and Katy Klomps.
The Cougars were utterly dominant in the fifth set. They began with a six point run and buried the Heat's chance early. At 12-4 UBC Okanagan took a timeout but it was too late.
Fallon Middlemiss sealed her final home game in style with the kill, giving MRU a 15-7 set victory.
Mount Royal improves to 5-17 on the season. They will conclude their regular season next weekend when they travel up to Alberta to play the Pandas.

UBC Okanagan drops to 17-5 and but continue to lead the Canada West conference. They are currently ranked #1 in the Canada West conference.ÂÂ
