WHKY: Bergesen and Amy named to U SPORTS All-Canadian Lists

Two players from the Mount Royal University Cougars women's hockey team were named to the U SPORTS All-Canadian lists after their stellar seasons. Forward Tatum Amy and defender Emma Bergesen were recognized at the women's hockey gala tonight in Montreal.

Named to the U SPORTS First-Team All-Canadian list is Bergesen who was a superstar on the Cougars' backend in 2022-23. The defender came off a summer of representing Team Norway at 2022 IIHF Women's Division I Championship. Bergesen was named top defenceman for her performance in the tournament. The Norwegian carried her success from international play into the 2022-23 season with the MRU Cougars. Bergesen led all defenders in Canada West with 22 points and ranked her tied for tenth overall for points in the league. The sociology student was lethal from the point on the powerplay. Bergesen quarterbacked MRU's powerplay and notched three of her five goals on the advantage. Bergesen's experience, dynamic offence and reliable defensive play led her to be a top player in the Canada West in 2022-23.

Amy was named to the U SPORTS Second-Team All-Canadian List. The star centre led Canada West in assists (24) and points (31). Her 31 points far surpassed her previous career-high of 17 points in 2018-19. Amy captained her team to a third-place regular season finish in the CW standings with a 19-6-3 record and a second place finish in Canada West Championships with a 5-4 record.

The Birtle, Man. local formed a dangerous top line with the dynamic snipers of Aliya Jomha and Courtney Kollman on Amy's wings. Amy was a threat on the power play and finished the season with 11 points with her opponents down a skater. She was also named to represent Canada at the 2023 FISU Winter World University Games in Lake Placid, NY. Unfortunately, the forward was forced to miss the tournament after sustaining an injury prior to the games. Amy returned from her injury and didn't miss a beat for the Cougars and maintained her reputation as one of the best players in Canada West women's hockey.

Begesen, Amy and the Cougars will now take on the University of Toronto Blues on Thursday, March 16 at 3 p.m. EST / 1 p.m. MT in the U SPORTS Women's Hockey Championship quarter-finals. Information about the game can be found at usports.ca/en/broadcast.
