The women's hockey team put together the best season in program history finishing fifth in the conference with a 12-14-2 record. The Cougars finished the regular season off with three straight wins heading into the playoffs. They fell just short against a tough Saskatchewan team in the best two-out-of-three quarter-finals. This hard fought series went to overtime in the third and deciding game.

Their team was led by Canada West Rookie of the Year Breanne Trotter, who led the team in goals, assists, and points. Breanne was also named to the USports All-Rookie team. MRU's Tatum Amy also had a strong season for the Cougars, being named a Canada West Second Team All-Star. Mackenzie Butz and Camryn Amundson were also named to the Canada West All-Rookie team, while third  year forward Anna Purschke was a recipient of the Canada West Community Service Award.

The women's hockey team also swept the major awards at the Cougars Athletics and Recreation awards banquet. Trotter was named Female Rookie of the Year, Purschke was the Female Brian Fleming Award recipient (top student, community leader and athlete) and Amy was awarded Female Athlete of the Year.

With the majority of core players returning for next season, the Cougars are poised to build on the positive steps taken in 2018-19.
