CALGARY - Canada's premier volleyball conference returns to action Friday, October 19, as the 2018-19 Canada West men's and women's volleyball schedules were released Wednesday.
The Mount Royal Cougars men's and women's volleyball teams will host the season opener against the Manitoba Bisons, the weekend of Oct. 19-20 at Kenyon Court. They'll travel North to take on the always competitive Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas the following weekend before heading into a bye, Nov. 2-3. Following a home series against the Brandon Bobcats, the Cougars will head out on the road for two weekends in a row - first against the UBCO Heat and then second against the Winnipeg Wesmen - before heading home to close out the first half of the season. On November 30, the Cougars will host their first annual 'Get Schooled' game mid-day and bring in elementary school children from around the city. In the second half of the season, the Cougars will face UBC, Thompson Rivers and Grant MacEwan before their second bye of the season on Jan. 25-26. Mount Royal will host two home series in a row against Trinity Western and Calgary, before finishing off the season on the road against the Saskwatchewan Huskies, Feb. 15-16.
The end of the regular season makes way for the conference best-of-three quarters Feb. 21-24. Canada West semifinal action is set for Feb. 28 to March 3, while the CW championship game will be played either March 8 or 9.
U SPORTS action takes over March 14-17, as the UBC Thunderbirds look to defend their title at Université Laval, while Alberta welcomes the top women's players to the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton.
