CALGARY - The Mount Royal Cougars men's volleyball team announced their final recruit, Paul Dionne, for the 2018-19 season.
Dionne joins a class of five total recruits for next season that also includes Luis Lange, Trent Mounter, Mitchel Gorman and Joao Freire.
Hailing for Regina, Dionne is a 6'5'' right side with a 6'7'' wingspan that has an extended resume of playing experience. Dionne competed at the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg for Team Saskatchewan and also trained in Japan with the same team for ten days in September 2017. Earlier that year in July, Dionne also competed at the Florida High Performance Tournament.
A versatile athlete, Dionne has played all three attacking positions in high school for the Weyburn Eagles and at the club level for Regina Volleyball Club, but will focus on right side in his first year at Mount Royal. Head coach Shawn Sky is excited about Dionne joining the Cougars in the fall.
"Paul is an exciting and very welcome addition to our program. We love his intensity and athleticism. His level of compete was awesome to see during the club season. I'm intrigued to see how it carries forward at MRU and how he contributes in the next five years."
The Canada West volleyball schedules are set to be released mid-June.
