Canada West releases men's and women's soccer schedules

CALGARY – The Canada West soccer schedules were released on Thursday ahead of the 2018 season. 2018 marks the 50th consecutive season of men's university soccer in Western Canada. It will also mark the 47th season of Canada West men's soccer, which is one of 14 CW sports to be contested annually since the conference formed in the spring of 1972.

The men's season will kick off on August 24, while the women's conference schedule is set to begin with games on September 1.

The Mount Royal Cougars men's soccer team will begin their 2018 campaign on home turf with their home opener set for Saturday, August 25 against the Lethbridge Pronghorns. They host the Saskatchewan Huskies the following day. Facing Calgary, MacEwan and Alberta on the road before heading back home, the Cougars will return to Stadium Field the weekend of Sept. 15-16 to host Fraser Valley and UBCO. They'll play more west coast teams including UBC and Thompson Rivers before finishing out the final games of the regular season against their Prairie Division opponents for the second time this season. The season concludes Oct. 19-21 on the road for the Cougars. All home games are set for 1:30 p.m. on Stadium Field.

On the women's side, the Cougars kick off their season on Saturday, September 8 down in Lethbridge to take on the 'Horns. Their home opener will be the following weekend when they play a double-header with the men's soccer team, hosting UBCO and Thompson Rivers. They'll make the trip out east to Saskatchewan to take on the Cougars and the Huskies before returning home to host Manitoba and Winnipeg, Sept. 29-30. Other opponents the Cougars will face later on in the season include Alberta, Fraser Valley, Trinity Western and Calgary. Their final regular season home game will take place on Oct. 21 against Lethbridge. All game times are set for 1:30 p.m. unless it's a double header with the men's team in which the women's game will be set to kickoff for 11 a.m.

The first round of playoffs for both the men's and women's side are scheduled for Oct. 26-28, finishing the following weekend of Nov. 2-4 with the Canada West Championships. The highest remaining Pacific team will host the women's Final Four, while the highest remaining Prairie seed on the men's side will host.

The U SPORTS men's national championship will take place Nov. 8-11 at UBC, while the women's event takes place in the nation's capital in Ottawa that same weekend.
