Season opens up at home for Cougars basketball

CALGARY - Tip-off for the Canada West basketball season is set for Thursday, October 25, as the conference announced the full regular season schedules today.

The Mount Royal Cougars basketball teams will begin their campaign against the UNBC Timberwolves when they host them on Oct. 26-27 at Kenyon Court. The teams will then head out on the road for two weekends in a row to face the Manitoba Bisons and then the Trinity Western Spartans. They'll then return home for a two-weekend stint, first hosting the UBCO Heat and then the Grant MacEwan Griffins. They'll close out the first half of the season against the UBC Thunderbirds in Vancouver. In the new year, the Cougars will return on Thursday, January 3 to host the Calgary Dinos in a home-and-home series and then play again on a Thursday the following week to host the Lethbridge Pronghorns in their second home-and-home series in a row. A home series against the Saskatchewan Huskies will mark their final games at home, Jan. 18-19, before a bye, followed by their final games of the regular season in Brandon. 

Conference regular season play stretches until February 2, before playoff action takes the court between Feb. 8 and March 2. The CW best-of-three semis are slated for Feb. 21-24, while the single-game conference championships will be played either March 1 or 2.

The 2019 U SPORTS Final 8s are set for March 7-10, with Ryerson University welcoming the best women's teams to Toronto, while Dalhousie University gets set to host the top men's squads in Halifax.
