Under Armour & Players Bench Athletes of the Week, Nov. 27-Dec. 2, 2018

CALGARY – Tatum Amy and Tyler Schmidt have been selected as the Under Armour & Players Bench Athletes of the Week for the week of Nov. 27-Dec. 2.

The University of Regina came into the Flames Community Arena to take on Mount Royal University last weekend. After a hard fought two days, Tatum Amy shined with a goal, an assist, and was the top forward in ice time. The series ended in a split, with both teams earning a victory.

On Friday night, Amy started MRU's scoring in the second period. The game developed into a thriller, ending in second overtime. The three on three period was back and forth, with MRU finishing with an exciting goal assisted by Amy.

On Saturday, REG took control winning 3-0. Amy however, was a bright light on the ice. Her team relied on her in every key situation.

Amy now has 10 points on the year and continues to be a leader for her team.

Hailing from Birtle, Manitoba, Amy is a second year, enrolled in Mount Royal University's Health and Physical Education program.

In men's volleyball action UBC visited MRU last weekend on Keyon Court. The Cougars came away with two victories, led by 39 total points from fifth-year Tyler Schmidt. He finished the weekend with 29 kills, 8 aces, 9 digs and 4 blocks.

Friday Night, the Cougars were able to regroup after a first set win by UBC. They won the next three sets and to complete the comeback. On Saturday, MRU took UBC 3-0, led by Schmidt's powerful serve.

Schmidt has been a force all year leading the Canada West in kills (220), kills per set (4.78), and points per set (5.7). This past weekend added to his career totals, putting him second all-time for Canada West Conference points and third all-time in Canada West Conference kills.

These wins bring MRU to 9-3 record and top five in the U SPORT national rankings.

Hailing from Calgary, Schmidt is finishing his final year of his Bachelor of Business.
