CALGARY - Josh Ross and Alex Donaghy have been named the Muscle Milk Athletes of the Month for the month of November.
From the women's volleyball team, Donaghy has been arguably the best player to hit the court each weekend, consistently leading the team in kills and points. The right side entered her fifth and final season with the Cougars for 2017-18 and is also the women's volleyball captain. In the month of November, which included the final weekend of the first half of the season Dec. 1-2, Donaghy scored a team-high 138 kills, 90 digs and 23 blocks. In Canada West, Donaghy comes in at fourth in the conference in both kills (171) and kills per set (3.64).
The Cougars women's volleyball team heads into the break with a 5-7 record and will return from the holidays with doubleheader match ups against the Thompson Rivers WolfPack and the Alberta Pandas in back-to-back home weekends.
Ross of the Cougars men's basketball team has been stellar for MRU on the court in the month of November. The fifth-year forward scored a team-high 152 points in eight games, grabbed 77 rebounds and added 38 assists. The Burlington, IA native comes in at Ross currently sits in second in the conference in rebounds per game with 9.9 and is fourth overall in rebounds with 99 total. In terms of points scored, Ross is eighth in Canada West averaging 19 points per game. He averages 35.6 minutes per game, good for fifth overall in the conference.
Going 4-4 in the month of November, the Cougars men's basketball team heads into the break with a .500 record of 5-5. When the Cougars return from break, they'll be on the road for two weekends in a row, beginning with a series against Regina and taking on MacEwan mid-January before returning home to host the Alberta Golden Bears.
