CALGARY - Two hockey players were named the final Under Armour and Players Bench Athletes of the Week for the first half of the varsity season, for the week of November 27 - December 3, 2017.
From the women's hockey team, Kennedy Bozek earns her first Athlete of the Week nod for her three goals against the No. 1 Alberta Pandas this weekend. On Friday night in Edmonton, despite the 3-1 loss, Bozek scored the team's lone goal in the contest. The following night back in Calgary, the Cougars stunned the conference, defeating and shutting out the Pandas 4-0 on home ice. The third-year forward scored two goals in the Cougars' fifth win of the season, and second win over Alberta this year. Bozek's first goal was the game winner and she followed that up with another in the last five minutes of the game to make it 4-0.
After the break, the Cougars return to Flames Community Arenas to host the Regina Cougars on Jan. 5-6.
The male Athlete of the Week this week goes to men's hockey's Cam Lanigan. The fifth-year goaltender made 35 saves on Friday night in the team's 3-1 loss to the No. 1 Alberta Golden Bears at Flames Community Arenas. The following night up in Edmonton, the Coguars dropped the contest 4-2, but Lanigan made another 25 saves that night. Over the course of the weekend, Lanigan allowed just two even-strength goals and had a save percentage of 0.923 in their weekend series with the Bears.
The men's hockey team comes from the break with a road trip to Regina on a Battle of the Cougars, Jan. 5-6.
